Wednesday, 14.11.2018, 10:30am
Location: RWTH Aachen University, Department of Computer Science - Ahornstr. 55, building E3, room 9u10
Speaker: Dr. Dominik Schmitz
Research data management is a „hot topic“ with many people and stakeholders discussing very diverse aspects. Within this session we will briefly touch the basics: - What is considered „research data“? - What are the requirements of funders and publishers? - What are my basic means to publish or at least archive and link research data at RWTH? - What is a „data management plan“? Afterwards, we need to discuss the relevance of this topic for „your“ work. Guiding questions can be: - What would another researcher need to follow or even reproduce your research? - How about software that you develop when working on your PhD project? How do you manage it? - If your work has a concrete application domain: What data do you need? How have you agreed upon data exchange, formats, identifiers etc.? - If your work is more theoretic: how do you manage your ideas? How do you record them? You use a whiteboard and take photos of it? How do you manage these? Certainly, we are open to discuss any other issue that you want to bring up.
