Data are collected about anything, at any time, and at any place. Organizations have data about the behavior of people, machines, robots, production systems, care processes, and organizations. The digital platforms controlled by a few technology firms (e.g., Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, Alphabet/Google, Facebook, Netflix, eBay, Uber, Salesforce, Alibaba, Baidu, and Airbnb) have radically changed the way we work, do business, socialize, learn, move, produce, etc. Moreover, upcoming technologies such as Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Machine Learning (ML) provide cost-effective ways to replace human labor. Are we as researchers responsible for the negative side-effects of (data) science? What role should governments play? How to make data science more responsible and tackle issues related to fairness, accuracy, confidentiality, and transparency? How to make data science green?
