Abstract:

Long life reliability of the CFRP tank has been ensured through performance test, which costs long period of pressurizing test and severe environment test. The performance test is to be substituted by simulation improved on the basis of meso-scale modeling, in which carbon fiber bundle and resin are distinguished with directly introducing fracture model of themselves. In the framework of meso-scale modeling, manufacturing defects in curing process is estimated and transferred to the reliability simulation. Inspection and monitoring techniques are also indispensable for safe use of the tank. These techniques shall be certificated with the precise simulation. For the overall safety management, a kind of platform to handle digital data related to simulation for design, manufacturing and inspection has been developed. In the lecture, examples of simulations of burst pressure prediction, residual stress estimation after curing process, optimum design of minimum weight are demonstrated and future plan of constructing the platform is presented.
